In Part 3 of this Case Study, we review the client's progress at the 4 week mark. This consultation review is done remotely. Quantitative results show a 3.5 pound weight loss trend per week and a 3 inch reduction to waist measurement.
To lose this excess abdominal fat in particular, the client has been avoiding refined carbohydrates, whole grains and strategically wrapping additional natural carbohydrate intake around energy expenditure (exercise).
The waist size is a good simple measure to track. Over the years, various forms of waist measurements have been used, but the current one is the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). A person's WHtR, also called waist-to-stature ratio (WSR), is defined as their waist circumference divided by their height, both measured in the same units. The WHtR is a measure of the distribution of body fat. This has worldwide accuracy and is measured at the level of the belly button. Higher values of WHtR indicate higher risk of obesity-related cardiovascular diseases; it is correlated with abdominal obesity. A WHtR of over 0.50 is critical and signifies an increased risk.
For example: A person with a 30” waist and height of 65” - WHtR would be = .46 (under the .50 measure so considered okay)
